Melodie de l'Amour

Straight-up, huge white florals, boldly blooming in the luscious warmth of summer. This is your ultimate bridal scent, as it’s classically embroidered with delicate romantic anticipation. (I should write these official perfume press-releases - if you want an accurate truth, you know to come to me).

Let’s start with what ‘Melodie de L’Amour’ is SIMILAR to. It could be seen (or smelt) as an evolved version of Jean Patou’s ‘Joy’ but with a greater refinement from richer, more lavish floral nuances. There’s a similarity to ‘Diorissimo’ as lily-of-the-valley is the most dominant note. But it’s THE CLOSEST to Ramon Monegal’s ‘Kiss My Name’. Both share a similar naturalistic, sumptuous floral opulence, with tuberose, jasmine, cedar and musk, all blooming together in an ultra realistic botanical flourish.

The honey, cedar and musk aren’t the most obvious notes, whilst the peach gently adds a little sweet blush to the cheeks of this scent. It’s ‘broom’ that’s helping to give a subtle sweetness. Broom is an evergreen shrub with pea-like yellow flowers, which gives off a dusty-sweet, leathery-neroli, orange blossom/grape scent. Broom gets my vote as another suitable alternative/substitute to vanilla.

Although others may speak about the tuberose in this, that’s hardly the main note against my skin. For me, it’s all about the lily-of-the-valley which carries the narrative. It gets a little help from broom/gardenia/jasmine (with a whisper of soft peach) and these weave the fairy-tale of this amorous idyllic visionary.

Longevity is its only downfall, as this might be the shortest lived of the entire Dusita range - but like a butterfly, it’s just so beautiful in its ephemeral lifespan.

‘Melodie de L’Amour’ is my third favourite from Dusita. If you’re not a fan of big white florals, then this will repel you, but for me, florals (both in a perfume and in my garden) are the scent of life. ‘Melodie de L’Amour’ is ripe summertime blooming in a bottle.
