Maison Francis Kurkdjian - Baccarat Rouge 540
“A unique oriental floral fragrance suitable for both men and women, Baccarat Rouge 540 lays on the skin like an amber floral and woody breeze. A poetic alchemy composed by Francis Kurkdjian, where the aerial notes of jasmine and the radiance of saffron carry mineral facets of ambergris and woody tones of a freshly cut cedarwood, creating a graphic and highly condensed signature.”
I bow-down to the originality of this conceptual fragrance. Maison Francis Kurkdjian has captured the abstract and almost inconceivable olfactoral nuance of molten glass and luxury crystal in 'Baccarat Rouge 540'. The number 540 indicates the temperature needed to achieved the red colour of Baccarat crystal.
To me it smells like crushed red rubies, Himalayan sodium chloride, a whisper of pink candy-floss and a touch of dried minty toothpaste. Maybe this is what fairies’ wings might smell like - delicate, magical and transparent? It reminds me of the mineral residue which remains on your sun-kissed skin after swimming in the sea and being on the beach - usually a smell that you strive to wash off, not smell like. Its creation is impressive and I can see why it’s a modern cult classic, but I don't wish to smell like this.
Today my boyfriend declined to kiss me goodbye. When I questioned him as to why he replied: "I don't like your perfume".
'Interesting' is not always sexy nor pretty.
