Byzance
Ooh interesting. ‘Byzance’ packs the biggest punch from the ‘La Route de Soie’ collection. It explodes with the familiar tart zing from Ormonde Jayne’s love of using blackcurrant buds and pink berries. I love orris butter but I’m not really receiving its scent, nor the milky accord (thank goodness, I’m lactose intolerant to lactonic accords). It’s a clash of the high sour notes of the blackcurrant with the low base notes of the vanilla with suede. It’s a punchy, fruity, adult-gourmand with the sharp purple-power of Dior’s ‘Poison’. It’s obviously too sweet for me, as I run a mile at the first sniff of vanilla, but if these notes excite you, then it’s worth investigating. ‘Byzance’ is a zestful, creamed vanilla cassis with good longevity.
