Cherry Musk
'Cherry Musk' from Ramon Monegal’s Musk Collection is described as “Cheerful, daring and sexy. A bold wink of provocation” - but to me, (as beautiful as it is) it’s subtle, not bold and remains a close skin-scent. This is the most demure of Ramon Monegal’s phenomenal work, so I wish it were a daring provocation. It’s a beautifully balanced duo of glossy, blood-red cherries (which are fresh rather than sweet), combined with a salty, savoury, comforting musk. These two main notes harmonise together, but it’s nothing more complicated than that. ‘Cherry Musk’ is an everyday, non-offensive your-skin-but-better scent.
Spanish born Monegal explains that in Spain, in the month of March, over a million cherry trees flower on the valle del Jerte. He describes it as “a sea of white flowers of sublime scent that will turn into the fruit of desire.” Such a romantic inspiration for a demur fragrance which (simply but thoughtfully) combines cherries with musk. It’s certainly more civilised, refined and without the bitchy slap-across-your-face that Tom Ford’s ‘Lost Cherry’ gives you.
